OUR STORY
Northern Resonance was formed in the fall of 2017 when the fiddle player Anna Ekborg envisioned a string trio built around the unusual combination of Viola D’amore, Hardanger fiddle and Nyckelharpa. She pitched the idea to the fiddle player Jerker “JJ” Hans-Ers and the nyckelharpa player Petrus Dillner, and so Northern Resonance was created as they began exploring a new shared sound.
In 2020 the trio released their self-titled debut album that got nominated for a Swedish Grammy. They have since then toured the world taking them places such as Australia, Chile, Colombia, USA, UK, France and Germany. Their second album “Vision Of Three” was released in 2024, where the band further developed and enriched their already established sound. The album was nominated at The Manifest Awards for Folk Album of the Year and the same year the band was also nominated for Artist of the Year at the Swedish Folk and World Music Gala for their accomplishments during 2023-2024.
In 2026, the band entered a new chapter as Petrus stepped aside, making room for Albin Broberg, adding the 12-stringed guitar. His addition opened up new possibilities by providing a broader register and a stronger rhythmic foundation. Northern Resonance’s distinctive sound and character remains—now further enriched.
“We’ve been composing music by drawing inspiration from our everyday life. We want our music to connect people and our goal is to create music that people can relate to regardless which language they speak. The majority of our tunes are dedicated to friends and family, places that mean a lot to us and moments that have reflected on our lives. We all come from a background of traditional Swedish folk music. We’ve been playing, dancing and going to festivals and concerts since we were kids and have followed the journey to where modern folk music in Sweden is today. With the knowledge we have about our traditions we feel confident to push the boundaries of nordic folk music and make our own imprint.” - Anna, Jerker & Albin
